The Prince William County Police Department’s Animal Control Bureau is responsible for enforcing animal welfare laws, conducting animal education seminars and operating the Animal Shelter. Animal Control Officers enforce County and state animal care and control laws, investigate complaints of animal cruelty and neglect, quarantine animals that have bitten humans, provide 24-hour service for injured animals and other animal emergencies, provide public education on animal laws and animal care in disasters and remove stray animals from streets and public areas.

Animal Services Center Nears Completion
Prince William County Animal Control Bureau officially transitioned into the new Animal Services Center, Tuesday, November 23, thus initiating Phase 2 of the construction project. The first phase of the project consisted of preparing the West Wing of the building for partial occupancy. Visitors to the new facility should expect a few changes to adoption operations until the second phase is complete.

Animal Advisory Committee
The Animal Advisory Committee is charged by the Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) with advising on policies; increasing community outreach; seeking outside grant funds for animal welfare; providing support as requested to Animal Care & Control Services; and making recommendations to the BOCS on educational and special event programs, that will assist in providing the best animal-welfare service.
